Research Interests

My research and creative work centers around implementation challenges to education reform in four areas: 1. School Choice: how the effectiveness and diversity of public education can be improved by offering additional alternative models; 2. Teacher Training and Support: how teacher performance can be improved by applying evidence-based capacity-building strategies; 3. Student Access: how student performance can be improved by providing students access to better schools, quality teachers and instruction, more challenging courses, and more learning opportunities outside of formal instruction time; and 4. Assessment Quality: how assessments can be improved by ensuring they are aligned with federal and state frameworks as well as education standards for assessment technical quality and validity.
